Originally established in 1955 to serve the Jewish community in Johannesburg, Kyalami’s layout has matured beautifully over the decades. A major upgrade in the 1990s – driven by dedicated club stalwarts Brian Wilson and George Adelaine – laid the foundation for a world-class course. The greens were rebuilt in 2011, and the club took a forward-thinking step by investing in a massive water storage upgrade, ensuring sustainability and lush conditions year-round. Today, nine of the 18 holes feature water hazards, adding strategy and intrigue to every round.
But what truly sets Kyalami apart is its superb collection of par 4s. Each hole is a study in design, variety, and challenge. The club’s rich heritage includes a hole-in-one on opening day in 1955 and an exhibition match between legends Bobby Locke and Peter Thomson in 1956. In the 1990s, it played host to three consecutive South African Women’s Open championships, cementing its place in local golf history.
